Newsletter No 4 January 2009
WELCOME
...We do hope that you had a pleasant break over the holiday season and are feeling refreshed and relaxed. The weather is settled now and I do hope you have had the opportunity to get down to the courts for some good tennis.
WEDNESDAY sessions return to normal on Wednesday 28th January 7.30pm. Feel free to make your way down for friendly game or two. If you are unsure because of weather etc phone the club before coming-478 5822 is the club phone number.
SOCIAL EVENTS Once again the Junior monthly BBQ
will be happening please look out for the Junior Newsletter which will confirm
dates.
Slater shield is to be played on 7th February, feel free to come
and support our Newlands team. This is to be played at Johnsonville Tennis
Club.
JUNIORS Club nights are to start on 5th
February. Depending on age group time are set from 3.30pm until 8.30pm. The
junior coaching on Mondays has been set to start on Monday the 9th
February please discuss with Mike King(Junior Convener) or email him to see
where your child is placed on list.
JUNIOR CHANGES A grant was applied for by Newlands/Paparangi Tennis Club to subsidies the payment of a coach that we had attending the junior club night sessions on Thursday's. As we were unsuccessful in obtaining the full amount needed, parents will be asked to contribute towards the surplus. If we could get more parents to help supervise these sessions on a Thursday we may be able to reduce the coaching hours thereby reduce the costs. If you have any feedback or can help please do not hesitate to contact either Caroline Peart, Simone Sickels or Mike King.
Help with these Thursday sessions is always needed, so please do come down. Your children do benefit by you just being there.

INTERCLUB Senior inter club starts on 1st
February. Juniors are to start on 15th February. Good luck to you
all. A big thank you to all those parent and coaches for there continuing
support.
Results for pre Xmas draw seems to indicate that teams are correctly
placed, with room for improvement.
Mens A-1st, Mens 5-9th, Boys A2-6th,Ladies
unsure of result, Boys C2-6th, Girls A-5th, Girls D1-3rd
well done.
GENERAL A big thank you for the new fridge and second
hand stove.

Another good Internet feature is the Passing Shots newsletter that is issued every week. To subscribe (its free), this can be accessed through the web site and then the news tab, click on passing shots.
CLUB ROOM MAINTENACE The Committee has been trying for some time to apply for a grant to enable us to paint the Club Rooms. Does any member know of a painter that would be interested in quoting for this job?
WORKING BEE We are a club that relies on the help of its members to keep the rooms and the grounds in a tidy condition. A working bee will be organized later in the season to once again weed the driveway. Please make yourself available, as many hands make light work. Also if you ever felt like having a dig you never have to wait for a working bee. Help is always and very much appreciated.
